The words used in glasstarn and in these docs, in plain terms.
| Word | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Work item | One thing that moves through the process: an order, a ticket, a claim, a job application. Also called an item |
| Step | One thing that happened to a work item, such as Approve Invoice. Some tools call it an activity |
| Hand-off | The move from one step to the next. The arrows on the map |

| Main flow | The most common steps and hand-offs, without the exceptions |
| Bottleneck | A hand-off where a large share of the total time is spent |
| Drop-out | Items that reached one step but not the step you would expect next |
| Repeated step | A step done more than once on the same item, often because of rework |

| Median | The middle value. Half the items are faster, half are slower |
| 90% within | Nine out of ten items are faster than this |
| Driver | A field value that is much more common among slow items than among the rest. A pattern, not a cause |

| Connected process | Several kinds of records that link to each other, such as orders, deliveries and invoices |
| Tested | A system and process glasstarn has run on a real or trial system, such as SAP purchase to pay |
| Untested | A system and process written from the vendor’s documentation and checked only on made-up data |
| Data checks | Questions glasstarn asks when the data could mean two things |
| Expected process | How the work is supposed to run, agreed by someone, used in Check |
| Conformance | How closely the recorded work follows the expected process |
| Followed it | Items whose recorded steps match the expected process exactly |
| Steps matched | Conformance as a share of steps: recorded and required steps that line up. 100% means every item followed the expected process |
